Joseph DeBell
Presented by Debbie Barbre
When Joseph's application
showed "Distillation Technology" as a planned occupation, I
wondered what that involved. After interviewing him I realized there
is a lot to this occupation. Taking biology, chemistry and food
science classes at Oregon State University in Corvallis, he will
learn all aspects of food and drink preparation. He did his homework
and learned according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the
employment of food scientists is expected to grow by 7% by 2026.
Joseph has been employed at Henry's Vineyard,
C2it garden landscaping and at a ranch bucking hay. He is captain on
the basketball court and spent time in track and field and cheer. He
is an outstanding percussionist in band and choir. Besides national
honor society he is involved with the outdoor, literature, and drama
clubs.
His favorite community service project was
helping hands which he says is "awesome". He enjoyed building
a wood shed with Dick Kreger and Dick really enjoyed having him as a
working partner. But he has spent time with Grateful Bread, Red
Cross, carnival, Walk for a Well, Booster Club and more.
In his personal statement, Joseph shows how
committed he is to his planned profession. After all, who
doesn't like food?
Please help me welcome Joseph DeBell to receive
his scholarship.

Brooke Roberts
Presented by Debbie Barbre
Ever since she can remember Brook Roberts has had a
fascination with the medical field. With her 4.0 and strong chemistry
background she is on the right path to becoming a dentist. Brooke having
been accepted at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon, plans to
major in chemistry. She has been saving her money for college working at Smokin Friday BBQ and at Adapt.
In her personal statement Brooke stated she has a
stronger will to be a dentist because whenever people would ask "what do
you want to be in the future" and she told them, there was little doubt
in her mind. I sensed there was question to her answer and now she wants
to show everyone that she can actually do this. Brook, you show them!
In school she has been captain of varsity soccer,
active in track and field, FFA, National Honor Society and is first
chair clarinet. Her favorite teachers were in science, band and coach.
Brooke first started volunteering when she was 8
years old with her mother working at the local newspaper. She went on to
help out at the Duck Race, Camp Millennium and Relay for Life. High
school gave her more opportunity to volunteer. Brooke has helped Red
Cross with blood drives, auction for band, Halloween carnival, Shop with
a Cop, Walk for a Well, Literacy for Kids, Willie Wilkinson tournament,
and Christmas gift wrapping.
Her personal goal is to keep up good grades and never
have less than a B. She sets high standards for herself.
Now its time to smile and show those pearly whites
while welcoming Brook Roberts to accept her scholarship.

Nehemiah Dunnavant
Presented by Debbie Barbre
Nehemiah provided an application with a transcript full of A Plusses and
shining letter of recommendation from influential people, but it's his
dedication to becoming a Physician Assistant that impressed me more. He
has a clear view of the years in college and many hours of clinical work
ahead to reach his goal. He plans to start at Oregon State University
with a major in Bio/health Sciences then go to on to a PA program at
either Pacific University or OHSU in Portland. A Physician Assistant is
a person who works closely with the doctor and whose duties include just
about everything a physician does short of surgery. PA's are becoming
more welcome in a clinic, freeing doctors to do more in their
profession.
It's no wonder his favorite community service project is Red Cross blood
drives, but he also has helped at food pantry, blanket making, Glide
fire department and more. He has earned a little money working as a
ranch hand and bucking hay. He has held class officer positions in
school and FFA. He played baseball, sings tenor in choir, involves
himself in literature club and national honor society and on and on….
Nehemiah Dunnavant could not be with us tonight.
